Green Lantern Corps Vs EVERYTHING

I’m way too hyper right now as in my eyes the summer movie season starts tomorrow at midnight with a big ass viking swinging a hammer, followed by lithe blonde holy men fighting vampires and then sexy sexy pirates.  While all of that is awesome in its own right, we also have Ryan Reynolds in tight glowing green with Marilyn Manson contact lenses (apparently.)  And Mark Strong being strangely hot as a pink alien named Sinestro (which, if that wasn’t a clue to him becoming your arch enemy, I don’t know what would be.)

Anyway, theatrical trailer of OMG ahoy as we see the Lantern Corps en masse take off after the big bad (and pretty much the entire plot of the movie is explained here.)

Yes I know we’re behind – Green Lantern

After viewing this I’m still not sure about it. The effects are WAY too bright or something. And Ryan Reynolds is acting a bit too Ryan Reynolds. I know he can act stolid and heroic…but they are making Hal a little too…Van Lantern. Needs more Mark Strong.

After handing Marvel their ass in the direc to DVD cartoon market, I think Marvel is about to smack them back with Thor, which looks like the better of the two flicks.

Green Lantern Sequel already??

Even before the film gets released (nearly a year before actually) WB is getting  a sequel penned.

Variety is reporting that Michael Goldenberg who wrote Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be doing script duty.

The way they told it at Comicon this will be the movie that shows Sinestro being all Sinestro’y and evil.  Which come on, is why we like watching Mark Strong….cause he does evil good.  Wait…does that make sense?

Anyway, that’s putting a lot of faith that the 150 million dollar movie will make that much back.  If the reaction to the suit when it was first shown to everyone was an indicator they might want to wait a bit.

Green Lantern Panel – SDCC Kids steal the show again

The footage and panel for The Green Lantern was limited on the pretty images. But we did get to see Ryan Reynolds nearly adopt a young un who who was wearing his Green Lantern t-shirt and stole the show from everyone when he asked Reynolds “What’s it like to say the Green Lantern oath?” which of course got Reynolds to recite it on command. He also signed a comic for the boy and then brandished rings at one another.

Here’s how that went down

It was a great moment in the panel and the footage which as said was lackin due to the movie still being shot gave us at least some glimpse at what we can expect. We did get to see a giant green fist emerge from the ring during fight Hal is in. But no sign of Sinestro. We do get a very quick glimpse at one of the corps.

It was also obvious that the filmmakers had heard the grumbling of the fans in response to “the suit” which they defended, saying it was still in the early stages yet. I still need to see the suit (and Reynolds in it) moving around before I call party foul completely.

In any event since we don’t have the footage to share, here is a dream Green Lantern trailer with Nathan Fillion in the lead role made by a fan with way too much time and talent on his hands.

Comicon Death Inducers # 3

Let it begin.

Marvel’s slew of comic book flicks and their massive blitzing of media for said films starts.  Comicon will be COVERED in this like a slick sheen of sweat on the face of a Hall H line stander while they bake outside.

First up is Ryan (six pack abs) Reynolds as Hal Jordan on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

Booya.  Nice muscle and tendond look thing they’ve got going on with the suit.  Until I see it in action I’m not impressed yet.  I agree with others that I’ve seen photoshops better than this cover.  But it makes me happy to finally see Hal getting love.

But I’m FAR more excited about this

We’ve always known Anthony Hopkins was a god.  But damn…he LOOKS RAWRSOME AS ODIN.

(oh and Thor looks good too)

I can’t wait for Thor.  I could be completely nuts, but this makes me happy.  I can’t wait to see footage on this.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And of course we can’t post about the Marvel movies without commenting on the lunacy that is Edward Norton and his bullshit move by Marvel screw over.  I’ve made clear how I feel on that I think.

Moving on to the new casting of Banner.  We’ve went from Joaquin Phoenix to now Mark Ruffalo.  I like neither. Now we’ve got a David Tennant rumor.  I like this far more, but he needs to be sporting a green question mark and running away from Batman.  I’ve thrown my hat into the ring behind Sharlto Copley.   He’s perfect in my opinion.

I know we won’t get the final answer on the Banner casting until Comcion and whomever it is walks out on stage.  But I can only hope Marvel makes up for the cluster ass way they screwed over Norton by giving us someone equally as good and dedicated to giving the Hulk and Banner the respect and due they deserve.
